Your liver is the most stressed organ in your body. It removes all toxins and purifies the blood from the digestive system. Although the liver is a very effective detoxifier, it has many other important roles in all body systems.
Here are the most common signs that your liver is crying out for help.
- Chronic fatigue
Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome feel like the common cold, and it’s likely that you’ve had symptoms for at least 6 months before being diagnosed with the condition. The cause of chronic fatigue is liver toxicity. A healthy liver converts glucose into glycogen, which provides the body with energy. However, a diseased liver can barely produce glucose and has very little room to store it.
- Yellow eyes and skin
Yellowing of the skin or eyes are other symptoms of liver disease. Also, this condition, called jaundice, is not a disease in itself, but a symptom that may be abnormal. Jaundice is usually caused by a diseased liver causing excessive accumulation of bilirubin, a yellow pigment produced by the breakdown of dead red blood cells in the liver. If the liver can’t get rid of bilirubin along with old red blood cells, your eyes and skin will turn yellow.

In most cases, allergies are caused by an overactive or underactive liver. A healthy liver cleanses the blood of all harmful particles and removes potential allergens. But when too much substance enters the bloodstream and the damaged liver can’t clear it, the body releases antibodies and chemicals that cause a visible rash on the skin.
- Swelling of feet and ankles
When the liver becomes ill, it tries to repair itself by creating scars and fluid accumulation in the lower body, especially in the feet and ankles. Although the swelling is painful, it is still a sign of liver disease.
- Weight gain
If you are persistently overweight, in addition to daily exercise and a healthy diet, you should talk to your doctor about liver dysfunction. When the liver can’t deal with all the incoming toxins, such as alcohol, artificial sweets, and high-fat foods, it stores all the unfiltered toxins in fat cells, causing weight gain.
- Pain in the liver area
Constant pain in the upper right part of the abdomen may indicate liver disease. The pain is usually mild and can get worse over time. When the liver is affected by disease, it cannot function effectively, becomes painfully swollen, and the body sends symptoms of toxicity.
